Book Fairs

Twice a year, the Douglas PTA partners with Scholastic to host our book fairs. Our spring and fall book fairs allow students time to browse with their classes and make wish lists for parents. After class preview days, we invite families to shop together during our sales days.

To make sure that EVERY student at Douglas gets a new book, we also support All For Books. Donations are collected all week and books are purchased for any Dragon who otherwise cannot afford to shop at the fair.

The book fair takes a lot of heavy lifting and is a great opportunity for parents to spend a bit of time on campus helping support the cause. Help is needed setting up the fair, helping students make wish lists, running registers during sales days and breaking down the fair at the end of the week. Please consider spending your lunch break or even a few morning hours in the Media Center during these FUN weeks. The book fairs are true student favorites!

Boosterthon & Fun Run

Douglas students and staff will participate in the 4th annual Douglas Dragon Fun Run powered by our local Boosterthon Team. Over the last three years, our Fun Run has raised Douglas more than $52,500 to help our school and PTA! Not only will our families help raise funds for Douglas during the two-week program, but students also will learn daily character virtues from the Boosterthon Team. We are so excited to learn about being brave heroes through this year’s theme: Castle Quest!

This student favorite event is scheduled to kick off on January 30 with daily huddles through the Fun Run on February 8.

Box Tops for Education

The simplest of all Douglas fundraisers, it’s easy to find a Box Top. Box Tops for Education is one of America’s largest school PTA fundraisers.

Pillsbury, Nature Valley, Betty Crocker, Cascadian Farms … ALL Box Tops Brands!

It’s simple. Neatly clip the Box Tops labels from the products you already purchase, turn them in before any one of the three due dates, Douglas earns money. Easy as that!

Dragonfire is Douglas’s annual passive fundraiser. Held in the fall, this is a fun and easy way for the PTA to kick off the school year and start investing in campus and classroom projects.

The Dragonfire fundraiser allows the PTA to retain 100% of the money raised to support all of the PTA programs for your children. Please consider asking your employer if there is a matching donation program where you work.

Our 2017 goal is $10,000 and our campaign is planned for the week of September 11.

To get the excitement going and have all of our little Dragons included in the fun, we will have a coin war between classrooms. Change will be collected and counted daily with results being announced during the daily WDES broadcasts. The class that brings in the most change will be awarded with “Mr. Burns as teacher for the day!” Mr. Burns will join students as a co-teacher for half of an instructional day. He will participate in class recess, maybe an art project, perhaps a trip to the media center, lunch, etc. — It is up to the class as to how they will spend time with our amazing and hands-on principal.

If we reach our goal, we’ll have a school-wide pajama day!

School Dance

The Family Winter Dance Party is the PTA’s way of saying “Thank You” for a great Boosterthon! It’s a night for our students, parents and teachers to celebrate a fun week and boogie on the dance floor.

This free event is open to all current Douglas students. Dinner is provided — and in addition to a DJ and dancing in the gym –we have face painting, a photo booth and glow sticks.

Silent Auction

Each spring, the PTA hosts an online silent auction fundraiser. But this is no ordinary auction. Every single item up for bid is PRICELESS.

Douglas’ amazing teachers and staff donate one-of-a-kind experiences for you to bid on for your children, from tea in the garden to a guitar lesson to a movie outing. Also up for grabs every year? The coveted “Noble Family of Carpool” front of the line pass AND front-row seats to graduation!

Spirit Nights

The Douglas PTA partners with area businesses to host Spirit Night fundraisers for school projects. These community-building events check so many important boxes — Having fun. Raising money for our school. Supporting local businesses.

The PTA has a fun mix of events planned this year! We have confirmed dates with annual favorites like Triangle Rock Club, Chipotle and United Skates of America. We are also excited to announce that we will be working with new partners like Tijuana Flats and the Carolina Rail Hawks!
