Principal Burns Dragon Update – March 30
Greetings Douglas Dragons!
I hope everyone is doing well. Today teachers will be provided the implementation plan for distance learning (beginning April 16th) and will be digging into that information. You should have been contacted by your student’s teacher about your technology needs. Please reach out to them if you haven’t done so yet. I have amassed all of our Chromebooks and they are ready for deployment to those who need them, as soon as I receive directions from the county. Please know your teachers are diligently working to meet the needs of their students during this unprecedented time. If you need something from me, please email (dburns@wcpss.net). We all appreciate your grace, and please allow yourself grace as some days of homeschooling are better than others.
Saludos Douglas Dragons!
Cudite – Take care,
Principal Burns
Weekend Update
Hello Douglas families! A few weekend notes:
Everyone should have received a survey from their teacher about their family’s needs; please be sure to respond to this ASAP. This is VERY important for planning purposes.
Todos deberían haber recibido una encuesta de su maestro sobre las necesidades de su familia, asegúrese de responder lo antes posible. Esto es MUY importante para fines de planificación.
WCPSS is actively working to get devices into kids’ hands for remote learning. If you are in need of a device, please make sure you reach out to your child’s teacher. Additionally, we are trying to crowdsource some more devices to help supplement students at Douglas. If you have an old laptop, Chromebook or tablet device you are able to donate, please reach out. We do have someone available to wipe data off of these if you’re unsure about how to do it yourself.
We are also still accepting donations to provide families with food. Feel free to message us if you are able to provide, or if you are in need of food. Additionally you can text FOODNC to 877-877 to find additional food resources.
Thanks as always for supporting our Dragons, we are so proud of the work our community has done to help one another!
How to Log In to Your Student’s WCPSS Account
There have been a lot of questions about HOW to access student accounts. Please see the guide below for details. Note, if you are unsure of your student’s username and password and they can’t remember — typically it is their student ID/lunch number OR first initial, last name, OR first initial, middle initial, last name. If these don’t work, please reach out to your teacher.
On the Douglas Homepage:

Under user type – select “Student”

Tah Dah! You’re in the Wake Portal. Please note that content varies based on grade level, so don’t fret if your student’s screen doesn’t contain the same items as below.

A Very Special Message From Your Douglas Staff …
We miss you Dragons!
It’s Almost Time for the Fun Run!

Our main fundraiser this year is the Douglas Dragons Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a pep rally on Wednesday, March 4. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Fun Run, which takes place on Friday, March 13.
Our goal is to raise $22,000 for technology, a gaga pit and artists in residence, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable and more fun.
Students will also experience a fun character theme, MINDSPARK: WILD WEST, which combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) with character-building. While they’re teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on FUNRUN.COM. All families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Fun Run on March 13. Stay tuned to the Dragoneer e-newsletter and Douglas PTA Facebook page for more details.
Thanks so much for your support!
