New Spirit Wear Is Here!

Our new spirit wear is all about being comfy and cozy while we learn from home. Think flannels for PJ day (every day?), soft-spun and regular tees, plush hoodies and fleece blankies to curl up with in front of your next Google Meet.

We also have some loved classics like car magnets and our popular Douglas trucker hat.

We cannot wait to see everyone in their new spirit wear, which is available now for preorder! Items will be distributed at September’s school material pickup event — stay tuned for exact dates from the school.

It’s Almost Time for the Fun Run!

Our main fundraiser this year is the Douglas Dragons Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a pep rally on Wednesday, March 4. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Fun Run, which takes place on Friday, March 13.

Our goal is to raise $22,000 for technology, a gaga pit and artists in residence, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable and more fun.

Students will also experience a fun character theme, MINDSPARK: WILD WEST, which combines S.T.E.A.M. skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) with character-building. While they’re teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to save Dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.

Box Tops Go a Long Way

Start cutting out box tops now (found on tons of products you buy at the grocery store) and keep them in a Ziploc bag. We’ll put the request out several times a year to send them in with your child and our PTA volunteers will do the rest to ensure we receive $.10 for each box top collected!

Spirit Nights

Come out for good food and fellowship with your Douglas family, and raise money for our school at the same time. These events are held at neighborhood locations, so you’ll be supporting local businesses, and a portion of the profits go to Douglas. Be sure to mention you are a Douglas Elementary family at each event so we get credit!

Book Fair

Twice a year, the Douglas PTA partners with Scholastic to host our book fairs. Our spring and fall book fairs allow students time to browse with their classes and make wish lists for parents. After class preview days, we invite families to shop together during our sales days.

Dragonfire is Here!

dragonfireDragonfire is Douglas’s annual passive fundraiser. Held in the fall, this is a fun and easy way for the PTA to kick off the school year and start investing in campus and classroom projects.

The Dragonfire fundraiser allows the PTA to retain 100% of the money raised to support all of the PTA programs for your children. Please consider asking your employer if there is a matching donation program where you work.

Our 2018 goal is $12,000 and our campaign is planned for the week of September 24.

To get the excitement going and have all of our little Dragons included in the fun, we will have a coin war between classrooms. Change will be collected and counted daily with results being announced during the daily WDES broadcasts. The class that brings in the most change will be awarded with “Mr. Burns as teacher for the day!” Mr. Burns will join students as a co-teacher for half of an instructional day. He will participate in class recess, maybe an art project, perhaps a trip to the media center, lunch, etc. — It is up to the class as to how they will spend time with our amazing and hands-on principal.

If we reach our goal, we’ll have a school-wide pajama day!

It’s Dragonfire Time!

We’re about halfway through our 11th annual Dragonfire Fundraiser, and we need your support to finish strong!

Our 2017 goal is to raise $10,000.

Dragonfire is our annual passive fundraiser in which 100% of the donations go directly to the Douglas PTA. In past years, Dragonfire has been responsible for a wide range of campus contributions including:

  • Arts, Science, Math and Literacy Nights
  • Playground Upgrades
  • Classroom Smartboards
  • Classroom Libraries

This year we are planning to invest in:

  • Visiting Artists
  • Field Trip Scholarships
  • Staff Support
  • New Extracurricular Clubs
  • Technology Upgrades

Please encourage your students to participate in the fundraising fun, too. Plastic baggies went home in Monday folders for them to fill with piggy bank and chore change and compete in the Classroom Coin War!

The winning classroom will be awarded a fun day with Mr. Burns!

Does your Dragon want to play soccer with Mr. Burns?  Have lunch outside with Mr. Burns? How about create a class art project with Mr. Burns? Conduct a scientific experiment with Mr. Burns?

Here is their chance! Each classroom will have a collection jar and change will be totaled at the end of Dragonfire. The winning class will be announced on WDES, our student-produced morning TV news show.
